News, News, News: Soderbergh gets hungry, Tomatometer Results

Now I found to hear that prolific director Steven Soderbergh could be retiring soon after doing a few more films. He'll shoot Magic Mike this fall, which will star Channing Tatum and is inspired by his earlier days as a male stripper and could direct the long awaited Liberace biopic. Along with that, he has two films scheduled- Contagion (Sept. 9th) and Haywire (Jan. 21st) and he'll also be taking part in then upcoming adaptation of The Hunger Games as a second-unit director. Electrician Chrys Blackstone tweeted, “Holy shit! Just found out that Steven Soderbergh is coming to the #hungergames to direct 2nd Unit. I am so excited this is getting good!”. This sounds strange, I know, but Soderbergh and director Gary Ross have a friendship that goes way back and HG production designer Phil Messina collaborates frequently with Soderbergh. This movie just got much better.

Rotten Tomatoes has the official results for the two movies out tomorrow. Rise of the Planet of the Apes has received 85% on its Tomatometer and is Certified Fresh. Critics agree that the film breathes new life in the long-running franchise with its stylish direction, impressive special effects and a memorable performance from Andy Serkis. However, that's not the same for the body-switching comedy The Change-Up. The film received 24% on its Tomatometer with critics agreeing that although Ryan Reynolds and Jason Bateman are playing against type, their performances aren't enough to carry the film. I'll give my reviews of these movies sometime soon. For now, you can comment below on which movie you think looks better.
